Police launch river search for missing Argus man

Police have launched a river search for a missing newspaper sales man who went missing over the weekend.

Ben Caplan, who works for the South Wales Argus, was last seen at a pub in the village of Caerleon near Newport at 11pm on Saturday evening.

There have been reports of someone going into the River Usk at around the same time and a search of the river is continuing.

Argus editor Kevin Ward has joined appeals for help in tracing 30-year-old Ben who went missing after a night out with friends.

Kevin tweeted an Argus story on Ben’s disappearance yesterday adding:  “Ben is one of our own & everyone is desperately worried about him.”

He told the BBC:  “All of Ben’s friends and colleagues at the South Wales Argus are desperately worried about him and we have been doing all we can to help the search for him since he was reported missing.

“We have been raising awareness via our website, social media and our news billboards and the front page of the paper. Our readers have done a fantastic job in sharing the information thousands of times.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Danielle and the children and everyone here is hoping Ben is found safe and well.”

Ben, who works in the Argus’s newspaper sales team, was reported missing by his wife Danielle after failing to return from his night out.

Said Danielle:  “He was out drinking and nobody’s seen him since. It’s totally out of character.”
