Newsagents welcome cover price rises at Scottish weeklies

Newsagents have welcomed an increase in cover prices at Trinity Mirror regional titles in Scotland.

A number of weekly titles at the publisher’s Media Scotland division have increased their prices and this has been accompanied by pro rata retail terms, which will benefit newsagents.

The National Federation of Retail Newsagents said its Scottish members had been given a boost by the move.

Scottish president Robert Baillie said: “This is a great confidence booster for independent newsagents. We are pleased that Media Scotland recognises the importance of NFRN members by bringing in these cover price rises and rewarding the retailer with pro rata terms.

“Such a move is crucial in these days of ever increasing overheads so I will be urging members to give all the titles involved their full support.”

Titles affected by cover price rises include the Hamilton Advertiser, East Kilbride News, the Ayrshire Post and the Irvine Herald and the increases are understood to be between 5p and 10p.
