New deputy editor for daily in further JP promotions

A deputy editor for a regional daily has been announced by regional publisher Johnston Press as part of a further series of internal promotions.

Current assistant editor Rob Hollingworth will become deputy editor of Sheffield Newspapers, which includes The Star and Sheffield Telegraph, under newly-appointed editor James Mitchinson.

A company announcement said that Rob will become the number two in charge of Sheffield editorial, continuing to provide support to James while taking a lead in driving total audience growth.

The appointments are part of a series of internal reshuffles of JP’s senior journalists in the region, the latest of which saw Chris Burton become group editor of South Yorkshire Newspapers, which includes the Doncaster Free Press and sister titles.

Johnston Press has also announced that Kath Finlay, currently content editor at the Doncaster Free Press, will become assistant editor in Sheffield, assuming leadership of the Sheffield Telegraph and providing leadership to the publishing unit’s magazine titles.

In a further promotion, Julia Rogerson will become newsdesk editor in Chesterfield for the Derbyshire Times and Matlock Mercury, after carrying out the role in an acting capacity since the departure of Clare Parkin.

The announcement by regional managing director John Bills said Julia had “proved an excellent custodian of the desk”, supporting the paper’s editors and providing “superb direction and drive to the reporting staff”.

John wrote: “Please join me in wishing Julia, Rob and Kath well in their new roles. With your continued support I’m sure they will make every success of the challenges ahead.”
