New boss named for Scottish newspaper website

Johnston Press has appointed a former digital sales boss for Scottish TV to run its flagship website Scotsman.com.

Australian-born Kris Yule will take on the newly-created role of general manager of the site.

Kris began his media career in 1998 as a sales executive at The Scotsman and worked for the paper for eight years before becoming UK head of operations for Go Fast Sports.

He re-entered the media industry with STV in 2012, becoming digital sales director with responsibility for all digital advertising revenue.

In his new role, Kris will report directly to Stuart Birkett, managing director of Johnston Press Scotland.

Said Stuart:  “Johnston Press has continued to invest in building a strong digital business and Kris brings a wealth of commercial and entrepreneurial experience to this important position.

“In this new role, Kris will build upon the great success of the recently re-launched Scotsman website and help develop strategies and sales to fuel our ambitious digital growth plans across Scotland, whilst at the same time exceeding the expectations of our partner advertisers.

Added Kris: “Scotsman.com is an iconic Scottish media brand and is well positioned to maximise the opportunity that the shift to digital formats has created. I am delighted to be part of what I know will be a successful period for JP in Scotland.”

Yet another newly formed post as JP invest in digital. How disheartening for those working under threat of redundancy. No chance to ‘maximise opportunity’ in print as the talent and experience of so many staff is deemed not necessary.
