Man proposes to partner via newspaper front page

A Gloucestershire man used to front page of a regional daily to propose to his future wife.

Tim Lane went down on one knee for long-term partner Nikki Jones via the front page of Saturday’s Gloucestershire Echo.

Happily for the 32-year-old project manager, when Nikki saw the paper on the newsagents’ stand her answer was yes.

Said Tim:  “I was fairly confident she would say yes but it was a bit nerve-racking. She just started crying straight away and obviously she said ‘yes’.”

Echo editor Kevan Blackadder said:  “I think Tim was expecting the picture to be inside the paper somewhere, but the minute I saw it, it had to be on the front page.

“We’ve been pulling deputy picture editor Mikal Ludlow’s leg about how on earth he got him to propose so convincingly.”

Added Tim:  “I did think about possibly taking Nikki up in a hot air balloon and writing ‘Will you marry me?’ in a field at the racecourse.

“But we buy the Echo every Saturday and I thought it would be a nice idea.”

There’ll be no putting the cork back in this particular bottle.

What a disgraceful front page story: the editor should be fired.

We’ll be seeing more of this guff as user-generated content starts to eat itself.
