The Herald, Plymouth was named the best of the West as the winners of the EDF Energy South West Media Awards were unveiled.
The Local World-owned title won the coveted daily newspaper of the year prize at today’s event in Exeter, held in association with HoldtheFrontPage.
It also picked up the community campaign of the year award for its health and wellbeing campaign loveLIFE along with two individual prizes – newcomer of the year for Rebecca Ricks and photographer of the year for John Allen.
Now in their ninth year, the awards aim to honour the best in journalism across the South West region – Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Bristol, Bath, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
Also among the honours was sister Plymouth daily the Western Morning News which won the specialist journalist of the year award for Philip Bowern and the columnist of the year prize for Becky Sheaves.
And there were three awards for Bristol daily The Post – feature writer of the year for David Clensy, designer of the year for David Lewins and daily print journalist of the year for Tom Morris.
Today’s individual winners received a £100 cheque, certificate and trophy at the celebration presentation event courtesy of EDF Energy.
