Trainee journalist wins award for top public affairs exam

A trainee journalist has been recognised for her outstanding performance in a public affairs exam.

Jenny Tregoning, left, has won the Public Affairs Award for 2011-12 from the National Council for the Training of Journalists and has received a certificate and a cheque for £250 sponsored by Oxford University Press.

She is studying part-time for the NCTJ diploma in journalism at Brighton Journalist Works, which she is due to complete in May, while also working at Brighton’s The Argus as a features sub-editor for nearly two years.

Said Jenny: “I am delighted to have won this award. I would like to thank my public affairs tutor, Richard Lindfield, for his enthusiasm and encouragement, and also my editor, Kim Protheroe, for supporting me through my studies.”

Richard Lindfield added: “Jenny was the perfect PA student. She combined a thirst for knowledge with an analytical mind, accomplished writing and the dynamic work ethic needed to succeed in journalism.”
