New HR director appointed for Johnston Press

Regional publisher Johnston Press has appointed Steve Gilliver as its group director of human resources, replacing Malcolm Vickers who left late last year.

Steve, who takes up his ne role from 15 April, joined from Dell Inc., where he was executive HR director for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Reporting directly to JP chief executive Ashley Highfield, he will be responsible for the implementation of several key initiatives aimed at supporting staff development.

Said Ashley: “I am delighted that Steve is joining Johnston Press.  We believe that ongoing staff development is central to the success of Johnston Press and I am sure that Steve’s knowledge and experience will help us to achieve our goals.”

Steve added:  “This is an exciting time to be joining Johnston Press. The programme of change which the business is undertaking is underpinned by a real dedication to equipping staff to achieve their potential.”

    Highfield states “We believe that ongoing staff development is central to the success of Johnston Press”

    You’d think if that is there believe, they might have invested in staff development? The only people to get any training while I worked there were the companies he was outsourcing to.

    It’s a funny world where a company will train a third party, but won’t train its own staff to make them more efficient.
