The former sports editor of a Welsh weekly is returning to his old paper as its new editor.
Jonathan Roberts left the Carmarthen Journal in 2005 to join Trinity Mirror where he has worked in a variety of roles for the past seven years, most recently as head of production for Media Wales.
But he will return to the paper as editor on 30 July after being named as its new boss by publisher Northcliffe Media.
He takes over from Cathryn Ings who quit the Journal in May after four years in charge.
Jonathan, pictured, began his career at Northcliffe as a trainee on the Llanelli Star in 1997, becoming the paper’s news editor before moving to the South Wales Evening Post subs desk.
After four years as the Journal’s sports editor, Jonathan moved to Trinity in 2005, working in a variety of roles across the Western Mail, Wales on Sunday and the South Wales Echo.
Said Jonathan: “I’m delighted to be returning to Carmarthen and a business I know so well.
“I am confident we can provide both our readers and advertisers with a first-class local news service they can enjoy and rely on.’
Blanche Sainsbury, managing director of South West Wales Media said: “I am delighted Jonathan is joining the senior team of SWW Media as editor of the Carmarthen Journal.
“Jonathan is passionate about Carmarthenshire and will be a great ambassador in the county for the Journal.”
Good luck JR!
I’m sure you’ll do a great job.
