Thurlbeck lifts lid on tabloid tales in sister’s new mag

Former News of the World reporter Neville Thurlbeck is set to make more revelations about his tabloid career in a new magazine being launched by his sister.

Andrea Thurlbeck and her husband and business partner Andy Barker are launching a free bi-monthly magazine in their home city of Sunderland called R&R – Rest and Relax.

The first issue contains an exclusive interview with Neville, who was arrested on suspicion of phone-hacking last year.

In it he reveals how he exposed Jeffrey Archer and David Beckham and also gives an insight into his time as an agent with the National Criminal Intelligence Service.

Said Andrea:  “It’s the goal of every publication to launch on a cracking exclusive and thanks to family ties we have one! This is also a great opportunity for Neville to tell part of his story too in his home town.

“R&R is an aspirational magazine that is Sunderland-centric – a quality magazine written in Sunderland, about Sunderland and for Sunderland people.

“In the run up to the launch of R&R, it became evident that both readers and advertisers were hungry for a magazine that they could call their own.

“We believe we have an exciting product with a difference where the magazine content genuinely dovetails into the online version, which will be updated on a rolling basis to keep readers informed.”

Andrea, who will edit the new title, previously worked as crime reporter and consumer editor at the Sunderland Echo.  She and Andy now run a PR company called Results Network.

R&R will have an initial print run of 10,000 which will be distributed door-to-door across core areas of the city and dropped in areas of high footfall such as cafes, restaurants and health clubs.

As well as the Neville Thurlbeck exclusive, the magazine contains a range of local and national features, interviews and news.

It has an online presence at www.randrlife.co.uk and can be followed on Twitter @randrlife.

Andy, who will have the role of commercial editor, added:  “We attracted advertisers to R&R on a concept which they fully supported from the off.

“We’d like to thank all the companies and businesses in Sunderland and beyond who have seen the potential and got on board from the start.”
