A flagship Scottish newspaper is to increase the cover price of its weekday editions by 15p.
The Scotsman will be sold for £1 instead of 85p during the week and £1.30 on a Saturday.
Writing in the paper editor-in-chief John McLellan said it was with ‘regret’ that the decision had been made. He said it would bring them in line with titles such as The Herald in Glasgow which has been £1 for a few months.
The price increase was said to be the result of a continued increase in the price of raw materials, the economic downturn and the way readers want to access information in the digital age. The newspaper is due to launch an iPad application later in the month.
Put the price up of the paper so people won’t buy. Why but the paper when the ipod app is £1.99 for 3 months!! Although it has very poor reviews. Typical of JP to do half a job on anything.

Lots of people struggling, millions out of work. Put up your price and slap them in the face. JP had two price increases on some papers last year. It cost readership but I guess the trend is towards digital publishing.
