Scottish daily to move to morning sale

A flagship Scottish title is to switch to overnight production from next week.

The change will see the Glasgow based Evening Times on sale from 7am, the same time as sister title The Herald.

Editor Tony Carlin said: “The Evening Times will now be available in shops for longer as a result of the decision to move our first edition printing to an overnight operation which will allow us to have the paper on sale from 7am.

“This will not affect in any way the normal exclusive Glasgow and west of Scotland content which makes the title a unique publication in a congested and highly competitive marketplace. It also allows us to continue to act as the city’s champion and to live up to our proud claim that Nobody Knows Glasgow Better.”

The shift will also result in the Times being sold in more than 300 retailers which do not currently sell the paper.

The second edition of the Herald and Times Group paper will be published in the early afternoon; a move which Tony says will allow the Times to continue to boast of coverage of ‘today’s news in today’s paper.’

The afternoon edition will also be available in more locations than previously.

Added Tony: “With our presses starting at around 2.30am we are still well placed to publish breaking news stories in our first edition later than most of our key rivals.

“We are confident that the Evening Times will continue to serve its loyal readership to its usual high standards and to further cement its place as a champion of Glasgow and the west of Scotland.”
