The Gloucestershire Echo’s headline about the special attributes of all-girls’ schools has scored a runaway victory in our annual press funnies poll.
An interview with the principal of Cheltenham Ladies College appeared in the Northcliffe-owned daily under the headline: ‘Girls schools still offering ‘something special’ – head.’
It swept to victory in our poll to find your favourite media funny of the year, garnering almost 50pc of the votes cast.
The Echo now takes its place alongside previous winners the Leicester Mercury, which topped last year’s vote with ‘Lord Mayor’s trousers fall down at children’s event,’ and 2009 champ the Welwyn and Hatfield Times for its ‘Dead man found in graveyard’ bill.
Runner-up with 22pc of the votes was the Hackney Gazette with ‘Man jailed for crack in bum,’ with the Weston, Worle and Somerset Mercury in third place with 17pc of the vote for ‘Jesus rubbishes mum’s sex claims.’
Nearly 300 HTFP readers took part in the vote which closed last night.
As a former Echo-er I couldn’t be prouder!
