Former weekly editor creates news blog for home town

A former weekly newspaper editor has set up a blog to report on news from his home town.

Phil Robinson, who was previously editor of the Ellesmere Port Pioneer, stepped down as chief reporter of Wrexham-based The Leader earlier this year after working in newspapers for more than 40 years.

He has now launched a blog for Llangollen in North Wales, which includes news, views and photos about the area, all of which is produced by him.

Phil’s Llanblogger site went live less than a month ago but has already attracted more than 1,000 page views and he hopes to turn it into a news website in future.

He said: “Despite being a dyed-in-the-wool newspaperman, I firmly believe in embracing the future of our business, which is most definitely online.

“My blog site, which I put together from scratch, has quickly proven to be very popular locally and my eventual aim is to develop it into a full-blown news website.”

Happy to see Phil is still going strong. I’m sure the out-and-out Manc will be bemused to learn Llangollen is his hometown. Never mind, I’ll buy him a pint next time I’m in the Wellington.
