Former journalist publishes tourist guide for pilgrims

A former newspaper reporter has helped produce a guidebook as part of a new faith tourism initiative.

Clive Price used to be a reporter on the Littlehampton Gazette in West Sussex but now runs Clive Price Media which has published The Holy Island of Lindisfarne Pilgrim Guide.

The guide contains information about the Holy Islands as well as suggested prayers for prospective pilgrims keen to travel there.

It aims to take holidaymakers “beyond the tourist trail” and entice them to “bask in the sun, sea and the Holy Spirit.”

Clive, who has visited the island with his family on several occasions, worked with tourism and religious group Lindisfarne Scriptorium to publish the 12-page guide which includes artwork by by Mary Fleeson.

He said: “As a family we’ve visited Lindisfarne and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I feel honoured to help others sample the special atmosphere of this place.”

Five thousand copies have been printed and a website is being constructed to offer further information to visitors, at www.lindisfarne.info. Clive hopes guides to other sacred places will be produced in the coming months.

The tidal island, just off the Northumberland coast, is known as Britain’s ‘cradle of Christianity’ and is rich with religious and Celtic heritage.
