Deputy steps up to acting editor at regional daily

The deputy editor of a regional daily will step up to become acting editor when the current post-holder retires.

Spencer Feeney will leave his role as editor of the Swansea-based South Wales Evening Post on 28 September after ten years at the helm.

His deputy, Cathy Duncan, left, will become acting editor after he leaves until a new permanent editor is appointed.

The post was recently advertised on HoldtheFrontPage with a closing date of 10 August.  Initial interviews took place in Swansea on 30 August.

Interim managing director Steve Brown said in an internal announcement: “This is a great opportunity for Cathy to gain experience as an editor and I hope you will give her your full support.”

Spencer has spent the last 26 years as editor of Northcliffe titles, previously leading Gloucester’s The Citizen and before that, the Llanelli Star.
