The senior assistant editor of The Scotsman has stepped up to become the deputy editor at the title.

Peter MacMahon has been picked for the role following the appointment of Ian Stewart earlier this week to the role of editor at the daily paper.

Peter has previously been Press Secretary to the then Scottish First Minister, Henry McLeish, and assistant editor at The Mirror newspaper.

Ian became editor of the title after John McLellan was axed as Scotsman boss in a shake-up earlier this year.
