Public take part in community journalism workshop

Members of the public in Leicester took part in a ‘community reporters’ workshop’ as part of an initiative run by a university.

The sessions were part of De Montford University’s Square Mile project which encourages people to get involved in their community.

John Dilley, director of the university’s Leicester Centre for Journalism, led a workshop on the basics of community reporting, calling it a “fantastic opportunity to engage with people outside the student population.”

The Square Mile project is a year-long scheme that was launched last year with the aim of using the expertise of the university’s staff and students to help improve the life and surroundings of 7,000 residents.
