A columnist who has written for the Manchester Evening News for the past 47 years has hit out at the paper’s editor after he was axed.
Andrew Grimes had written for the regional daily since 1965 but said he was let go last month after a phonecall from head of features Deanna Delamotta.
In a piece about his dismissal for Press Gazette, which can be read in full here, he complained that editor-in-chief Rob Irvine had left it to Deanna to axe the column.
Said Andrew: “I do not dispute an editor’s entitlement to reject contract work he does not want nor is allowed to pay for. But it’s his job to put the boot in, not a junior executive’s.”
Trinity Mirror has not so far responded to requests for a comment.
