Journalists from a weekly newspaper did their bit to support Comic Relief by selling red noses to hundreds of readers in one afternoon.
A team from the Brentwood Gazette raised £640 by selling red noses on the streets of the town to members of the public, then taking photos of them.
The paper featured 500 readers in this week’s edition, including on the front page, pictured below, ahead of Red Nose Day tomorrow.
They were able to carry out the fundraising feat after the Sainsbury’s supermarket in the town gave the journalists 720 red noses on a sale or return basis.
Editor Nev Wilson said: “We so very often report on all the good work and fundraising that goes on in our town, for Comic Relief or otherwise. It was time for us to have a go.
“So, for a hectic Friday, all the team, myself included, were out in three locations across our patch.
“I think the team did a pretty good job, and deadlines considered, we still managed to get a paper out – and the subs are still talking to us!”
The headline doesn’t really make any sense at all now newspapers are printed in colour.
