Telegraph triumphs at North-West awards

The Lancashire Telegraph scooped the newspaper of the year prize at last night’s How Do awards covering the North-West region.

But the Newsquest-owned title missed out on a print-online double as the award for best website went to business nwes aggregator link2portal.com

Collecting the newspaper award, Telegraph editor Kevin Young said:  “Local newspapers are still the bedrock of communities.”

Also shortlisted for the award were the Bolton News and the Westmorland Gazette

Last night’s event, hosted by broadcaster Jim Hancock at Old Trafford Cricket Ground, also saw Archant-owned Cheshire Life win a share of the best magazine title alongside Manchester Confidential.

The judges said they were particularly impressed by Cheshire Life’s “remarkable performance in sluggish and challenging times.”

Winners for the six journalistic categories were as follows:

Media website: Link2Portal.com/Ten Alps Publishing

Magazine: Cheshire Life and Manchester Confidential

TV programme: Moving On – Series 2/LA Productions/BBC One
