Regional dailies collaborate on business magazine

Two big-city dailies have come together to produce a new one-off glossy magazine listing the top 200 businesses in their region.

The Liverpool Daily Post and Manchester Evening News – both now owned by Trinity Mirror – have jointly published the 68-page ‘North-West Top 200″ supplement.

The magazine is being distributed free this week in the Daily Post and to readers of the MEN’s recently-launched weekly business magazine Greater Manchester Businessweek.

Sponsored by Barclays Corporate, the Top 200 table lists the leading companies in the region by turnover and was compiled by a team of business students at the University of Liverpool Management School.

Daily Post editor Mark Thomas said: “While Liverpool and Manchester have their own distinct business communities, and there is a deal of healthy rivalry between them, many businesses take a much more regional view.

“Indeed, many of the biggest businesses have senior executives hot-desking between the two cities.

“Now that the MEN is part of Trinity Mirror Regionals, we are at last in a position to deliver products that take a regional look at the business world.

“It is a major opportunity, and one we are looking to develop a lot further in the months ahead, while maintaining the strength of our separate business coverage.”

MEN Media head of business Adam Jupp added: “The launch of Greater Manchester Businessweek was a huge statement of intent from MEN Media in terms of its business coverage.

“Despite challenging economic times, there are numerous examples of companies within Greater Manchester, and the north west as a whole, that continue to buck the trend and thrive.

“That is why it has been great to compile this publication, which celebrates the success of those already doing well and will hopefully serve as an inspiration to companies looking to grow in the future.

“It has also been a pleasure to work for the first time with Liverpool, reflecting the truly regional perspective many of the businesses in the Top 200 have. We will continue to work closely with the Daily Post to develop new region-wide offerings.”

The Top 200 publication is based on a similar product which has been produced for many years by Trinity Mirror’s businesses in the North-East

It is the first jointly-produced publication by the Liverpool and Manchester Trinity Mirror businesses.
