Newspaper changes colour to mark club’s promotion

A regional daily changed colour this week to mark its local club’s promotion to the Premier League.

The Norwich Evening News printed every page of an entire paper in alternate yellow and green – the colours of Norwich City FC which has just returned to the top flight.

Wednesday’s special edition included a wraparound picture covering the front and back pages of  to mark a civic reception held in the Canaries’ honour and open-top bus parade the night before.

Inside there were reports across the first five news pages, comprehensive interviews in the sports section, and an eight-page picture pull-out from the event .

 

The newspaper is also planning a 48-page souvenir review of the season, which will appear in tomorrow’s Friday edition.

Evening News editor Tim Williams, said: “Instead of painting the town red, we painted it yellow and green. We like to do different here in Norwich and we wanted to do something special for readers to mark the club’s fantastic achievement.

”Response to the special edition has been tremendous – it’s caused almost as much fuss on Twitter as Pippa Middleton’s figure-hugging dress.

“The editorial team put in a huge effort to ensure the paper looked excellent and was packed with pictures and reports. Meanwhile, our newspaper sales staff did a great job in making supplies were constantly topped up in the shops and we’re hoping for a healthy sales increase.

”Most importantly the Evening News has given Norwich and the club’s fans a brilliant souvenir by which to mark a marvellous day and season.”
