Journalist who covered marathon inquiry retires

A Scottish journalist who covered every day of the inquiry into a North sea oil rig disaster has retired after a career spanning more than 55 years.

Aberdeen journalist Ted Kidd spent the majority of his career with the Daily Record and Sunday Mail covering all the major stories across the North of Scotland. He later worked as a freelance covering local authority meetings.

To mark his retirement he organised a charity event which raised £900  for the National Union of Journalist’s charity NUJ Extra.

Lord Cullen’s inquiry into the 1988 Piper Alpha disaster which claimed 167 lives ran for 180 days.

Said Ted: “I am proud to be the only reporter to cover every day of the Piper Alpha inquiry.”
