Investigative journalism internship on offer

Budding journalists are being given the chance to win a three-month paid internship at the The Bureau of Investigative Journalism in London.

Anyone wishing to enter needs to write an article of up to 1,000 words on any issue that fits into the Bureau’s four main areas of focus: Corporate Watch, Health, Human Rights and Open Society.

Recent graduates and entry level journalists can enter with the internship due to begin in September. Articles will be judged on the originality of the story, clarity of the argument and the strength of the supporting evidence.

The salary will be £16,200 per annum pro rata and will be entirely funded by the Bureau.

Producer Lucy Keating said: “Since our inception we have produced many front page stories, award-winning documentaries and had real impact causing institutional change.

“The Bureau is committed to nurturing new talent in the industry.”

Established last year the Bureau has collaborated with Wikileaks on its Iraq War Logs, conducted a nine-month investigation into EU structural funds with the Financial Times and carried out the largest ever analysis of public pay in the UK for the BBC’s Panorama programme.

The competition is open to journalism graduates and junior reporters, who are not employed by a national newspaper. Entrants need to be over 18 on September 1 2011 to enter.

Completed entries should be sent to [email protected] with the subject line ‘competition’ by midnight on 12 August.
