HoldtheFrontPage to sponsor young journalist prize

HoldtheFrontPage is bolstering its support for next week’s Regional Press awards by sponsoring the prize designed to reward the stars of the futuire.

The website, already a partner in the Society of Editors-run contest alongside the Newspaper Society and the Press Association, is to sponsor the Young Journalist of the Year prize.

HoldtheFrontPage publisher Paul Linford said it had chosen to sponsor the Young Journalist category out of a desire to show confidence in the future of the regional press.

Added Paul:  “We are very proud to be associated with the Society of Editors Regional Press Awards 2011 and in particular to be sponsoring the Young Journalist of the Year category, the entries for which have demonstrated that our industry has a very bright future.”

Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, said: “We welcome the support of HoldTheFrontPage for the rejuvenated Regional Awards that will celebrate the quality, breadth and depth of local and regional newspapers.”

HoldtheFrontPage joins UK Power Networks as a category sponsor for the awards.  The energy company is sponsoring the Weekly Reporter of the Year prize.

Lottery operator Camelot is the main sponsor of the event, while supermarket giant Asda is meeting the cost of the drinks at next week’s awards reception and lunch.

The awards lunch will be held at the Park Plaza Riverbank that overlooks the Thames on London’s Albert Embankment at 12 for 12.45 next Wednesday. Award-winning radio presenter Nick Ferrari will host the awards ceremony.

Newspaper consultant and designer Peter Sands is chair of the judges and the award ceremony will coincide with the Newspaper Society AGM and Local Newspaper Week 2011, which runs from 9-15 May.

Attendance at the lunch will be at the special inclusive price of £70 plus Vat per person or £700 plus Vat per table to include refreshments at the Newspaper Society AGM, a pre lunch drinks reception and wine with lunch. Special rates for overnight stays may be available.
