Reporter lands newsdesk role after three years

The Scarborough Evening News has appointed a new deputy head of content in the shape of 23-year-old Laura Crothers, pictured left.

Joining the Johnston Press-owned title in February 2008 after passing her NCTJ preliminary exams at Darlington College, Laura was quickly made business reporter for the paper and went on to win prizes at both the o2 media awards and the Yorkshire Press Awards.

She passed her NCE last March and started to support the newsdesk team and has now been given a permanent role supporting new head of content James Hanley.

Scarborough Evening News editor Ed Asquith said: “It’s good to see a younger reporter able and willing to take on the responibilty and pressures of a newsdesk because it doesn’t suit, or appeal, to everyone these days. She and James will learn a lot more and become more rounded, more deeply experienced journalists.”
