Journalist returns to seaside roots

A journalist has returned to his roots to take up a role as a trainee reporter at a seaside town.

Karl Hansell has taken up the position at the Whitby Gazette, not far from his home town of Scarborough.

He previously worked as assistant editor on the John Lewis Chronicle in Newcastle, where he produced a weekly 20-page branch magazine single-handedly, after carrying out his journalism training at Darlington College.

Karl said: “It was a privilege to be offered a role on the world-famous Whitby Gazette, and the fact that I grew up around here and I know the area really well makes it the perfect opportunity for me.”
