Council newspaper to be reviewed

A council is reviewing a plan to continue publishing its weekly newspaper.

Greenwich Time, published by Greenwich Council a is one of the most frequently published newspapers by a council with 48 editions a year.

Last month, the council’s cabinet agreed to continue with the free-sheet, despite a code introduced earlier this year that states that local authorities  should reduce publications to four a year. The code was introduced following calls from communities secretary Eric Pickles who referred to the newspapers as ‘pravdas.’

The decision has now been forwarded to the scrutiny committee which is expected to discuss it in September. The only other council newspaper that prints more editions is Tower Hamlets’ East End Life.
