Prestigious student media awards shortlist revealed

The student journalists competing to win a prestigious media awards scheme have been unveiled.

Winners of the Guardian Student Media Awards will win a month-long work experience placement at the newspaper and the shortlist of candidates has now been released.

The awards are being held for the 32nd time and a digital journalist of the year category was introduced this year.

Prize winners of the six categories will be announced at a ceremony in London in November.

Guardian editor-in-chief Alan Rusbridger said: “The students entering this year’s Guardian Student Media Awards are facing one of the most challenging journalistic environments in the history of the awards so far.

“Seismic changes in technology are creating new ways of connecting and informing communities, which inspire and terrify in equal measure.”

The panel who selected the shortlist included Jon Snow from Channel 4 News, investigative journalist Paul Kenyon and NME editor Krissi Murison.
