PA creates website for Pope's UK visit

A dedicated website has been set up by the Press Association to carry pictures of Pope Benedict’s visit to the UK.

The site, www.thepopesvisit.co.uk, will be updated daily with images by the Press Association’s photographers during the four-day tour .

PA said the site had been set up “in anticipation of a demand for print sales from the general public.”

Visitors will be able to browse all images from the visit and will be able to purchase them as prints or in framed or canvas form via the site.

Martin Stephens, managing director of Press Association Images, said: “During high-profile events such as these, we tend to receive a high volume of calls from members of the public who have seen our photographs in newspapers or online and wish to buy prints as mementos of the occasion.

“To make this easy we have created a dedicated site where we will upload all the images that our photographers take of the visit, allowing people to browse and choose the images that they would like to keep.”

The site also features related images from Pope John Paul II’s visit to the UK in 1982 and to Ireland in 1979, as well as additional shots of Pope Benedict XVI’s meeting with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

Pope Benedict XVI will arrive in Scotland tomorrow and go on to visit London and Birmingham.
