Newspaper staff bring Christmas cheer to homeless

Staff from a regional newspaper group are helping to improve Christmas for local homeless people by donating food and clothes.

Archant employees in Norwich have collected bags full of tins, packets of food, warm clothing and blankets for the Open Christmas charity.

Norwich Open Christmas works to make the festive period special for those who are homeless or on their own by providing a roof, hot meal and entertainment on Christmas Day.

And it is the sixth year Archant staff have taken part by donating goods, which is organised by HR administrator Sarah King.

She said: “This is the time of year I look forward to – organising the collection for Norwich Open Christmas.

“This is our sixth year at Prospect House and we decided to keep the collection points out over a week, hoping to improve on last year’s amount.

“We have managed several shopping bags full of food items and also bags of clothing, including duvets and sleeping bags.

“I know this will mean a great deal to the people who will be enjoying their Christmas Day in Norwich with other people, instead of being on their own or on the streets.”

Last year’s Open Christmas event was attended by nearly 400 people and all those who attend are given a mini hamper packed full of donated food and clothes.
