Newspaper publisher chooses its World Cup song

A newspaper group has announced the winning entry in its contest to find a World Cup anthem as the competition got under way this weekend.

The Kent Messenger Group recently ran a public vote to find an unofficial ‘Song for England’ after the FA’s refusal to record one this time round.

Now the group has unveiled 48-year-old singer-songwriter Trevor Osborne, from Ashford, as the winner with his entry ‘Go Win for England.’

You can listen to the song here at the group’s radio station kmfm.

Trevor’s entry was one of 10 shortlisted finalists chosen from 55 entries with the public encouraged to listen to each of them online and vote by text.

Proceeds of the text voting are going to the Demelza Hospice Care for Children charity.

Trevor’s win was announced to 158,000 listeners across Kent by Rob Wills on kmfm Drivetime last week.

He will now have his song professionally produced by Independent Music Productions with any possible iTunes’ revenue also going to benefit Demelza.
