Newspaper apology over X-Factor liposuction claim

A weekly newspaper has apologised to a former X-Factor contestant after it wrongly claimed she had undergone plastic surgery.

The Sunday Life, a sister weekly to the Belfast Telegraph, published an article in July this year saying Katrina Lee had liposuction after comments from X-Factor judge Simon Cowell.

But the Belfast singer complained to the Press Complaints Commission about the article which wrongly said she had the plastic surgery.

The complaint was resolved when the PCC negotiated the publication of the following correction and apology:

Our article “Katrina breaks from Simon Cowell jibes” (18 July 2010) stated that Belfast singer Katrina Lee had liposuction following comments from the X-Factor judge.

“We would like to make clear that Katrina has never had liposuction and the performer would not recommend going under the knife to anyone. We apologise to Katrina for any upset caused.”

The correction headlined “Katrina Lee” appeared with due prominence in the title and was accompanied by a photograph of the singer at her request.
