New deputy editor for North West daily

The North-West Evening Mail has appointed a new deputy editor in the shape of 31-year-old James Higgins.

James, left, has been at the Bolton News for the past five years and is currently the paper’s assistant editor, having previously been both head of content and news editor.

A former crime reporter James has also worked for the Blackpool Gazette, Lancashire Evening Post and the Oldham Advertiser.

He will be taking up his new position in August.

Jonathan Lee, publishing director of the North-West Evening Mail, said: “I am delighted that James will be joining our senior editorial team to help shape the Mail in print and online.

“James’ experience and ideas will strengthen what is a talented and developing team.

“James’ appointment shows that even in challenging economic times CN Group continues to invest in talent which enables us to embrace the opportunities on offer in a multi-media environment.

“I am looking forward to welcoming James to the Mail where I am sure he will have an exciting and enjoyable future.”

James added: “I’m thrilled to be joining the team at the North-West Evening Mail and am looking forward to working with Jonathan and my new colleagues.

“The Mail is already an award-winning newspaper and I hope to help build on that success in the coming months and years. My wife and children will be moving to the area with me so we can fully immerse ourselves in local life.

“I have spent almost five years at The Bolton News and have really enjoyed my tenure here, but the time was right for a move. So while I will continue to throw all my energy into my Bolton work, I look forward with anticipation to my move.”

Congrats monobrow – how you have progressed since writing meat bingo nibs at Blackpool!
But Barrow? The boil on the beautiful backside of the Lakes full of people in tracksuits. How lovely.
You taking the rabbit?

Hey, Anderton a*******e, don’t knock Barrow. It ‘s not very big and round about it is gorgeous. (As long as you don’t go to Millom). Besides, it has another enormous advantage – the CN Group isn’t Newquest, JP or Trinity Mirror. And it happens to be rather a good company.

Well done on the new appointment. Is it just me, or is he not the spitting image of Desperate Dan? Wouldn’t mess with him in the newsroom!

I have worked for James and definitely wouldn’t mess with him in the newsroom. He can be quite formidable. Fair though.
