New brew set to boost daily's charity appeal

A south coast daily has teamed up with a local brewer to launch a new beer as part of a charity appeal.

Brighton-based The Argus is joining forces with Sussex brewer Dark Star to create the brand new drink, to be called ‘The Argus Ale’ and which will be in pumps throughout June.

Proceeds from sales of the brew, which will be available at pubs across the county, will go towards The Argus Appeal which helps relieve sickness, poverty and hardship among Sussex’s needy and underprivileged.

The Newsquest title ran a reader competition meaning that two ale fans were able to join Argus editor Michael Beard on the tasting panel to pick the final brew.

Michael said: “The Argus appeal has benefited people of all ages and backgrounds in our community.

“We think this will be a wonderful opportunity for people to enjoy a relaxing pint knowing they’re contributing to good cause, and we’re particularly proud to be launching The Argus Ale in our 130th year in the community.”

Argus readers can still play a part in the birth of the new drink as the paper is also running a competition to design the clip which will adorn beer pumps.

The Argus joins Midlands weekly Stroud Life which launched a beer in its own name as part of a wider campaign to promote the local boozer.

Above was only a joke – I’ll withdraw it if it’s a problem.
