More journalism students fly out for Delhi games

A group of students from a sports journalism course have headed out to India to report on the Commonwealth Games.

The undergraduates from the University of Central Lancashire are in the third year of a sports journalism course and are spending 10 days in Delhi reporting on the event.

They will be contributing to the print and online editions of the Hindustan Times, India’s biggest English language newspaper, and will also carry out research for their final year sports journalism projects.

The students who have been selected are Imran Sidat, Stephen Muncaster, Bev Rimmer and Sam Ross. They join a further group of 30 journalism students from Sheffield Hallam University who are also covering the Games.

Stephen, who comes from Blackpool, said: “It’s an incredible opportunity and I feel extremely privileged being selected to go the Games.

“I would like to thank the School of Journalism, Media and Communication for providing the funds for us to go to India.

“I am hoping to come back not only a better and more competent journalist but also to gain further life and work skills to help me for the future.”

And Bev, from Chesterfield, said: “When I first came to UCLan I never imagined that I’d be kicking off my third year with a visit to India. I am extremely pleased, excited, and so grateful to UCLan journalism department for creating the chance for us.

“I hope to gain some quality first-hand journalism experience and what better place to do it than at a major international event such as the Commonwealth Games?”
