Gow heads for home as new Wales on Sunday editor

One of the leading digital journalists in the UK has been appointed to a dual role editing Wales on Sunday and the multi-title web portal WalesOnline.

Alison Gow, executive editor (digital) of the Liverpool Echo, succeeds Tim Gordon who has moved to become editor of sister Trinity Mirror daily, the South Wales Echo.

A previous deputy editor of the Liverpool Daily Post, Alison is also the author of Headlines and Deadlines, one of the country’s leading journalism blogs.

It marks a return home for the Pembrokeshire-born journalist, pictured left, who will take up her new role in January.

Said Alison: “I can’t wait to get stuck into the new job and I’m relishing the opportunity to work across WalesOnline and Wales On Sunday.

“It’s tremendous to be coming home to Wales and to contribute to the tradition of the high quality newspapers and websites that our readers and advertisers expect.”

Media Wales publishing director Alan Edmunds added: “We’re delighted to have Alison on board. She comes with an impeccable pedigree and a proven news-sense and is bursting with ideas for the newspaper and website alike.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming her to Media Wales and working with her on these two great brands.”

Alison is quite simply one of the best in the business. I had the privilege of working alongside her on the newsdesk at the Southern Daily Echo in the early 2000s and always remember Alison’s take on reporters who weren’t pulling their weight: “There are fools and there are busy fools.” Good luck in the new role, Alison, you thoroughly deserve every success.
