Exhibition of top press photographs opens

An exhibition featuring some of the best press photographs taken by those working for the UK media has now opened.

London’s National Theatre will host more than 100 photos selected as part of the Press Photographer’s Year awards in its Lyttelton foyer until 10 September.

The exhibition is made up of 119 pictures selected by a jury from the 7,713 images submitted to the contest, now in its fifth year.

It includes the 16 entries which won prizes when the results were announced last month.

David Bebber of The Times won the photograph of the year award for an image of Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi standing behind protective glass.

The contest is run in association with the British Press Photographers’ Association and entries were welcome from professional photographers based in the UK or those working predominantly for the UK media.

Admission is free to the exhibition, which is open Monday-Saturday with selected Sunday opening.

The winning images can be viewed at theppy.com.
