Ex-Crain's deputy moves to former rival website

The former deputy editor of Crain’s Manchester Business has been appointed as the new assistant editor of TheBusinessDesk.com in the North West.

Mike Fahy has been recruited in the new role by the specialist business website after Crain’s Manchester Business ceased publication last month.

Following its closure, Crain’s reached agreement with TheBusinessDesk.com to direct those visiting its website to sign up to the online news provider to find out about business news affecting the Manchester area.

Chris Barry, editor of TheBusinessDesk.com’s North West team, said he had seen an increase of around 3,000 registered users since then.

He said: “Mike is an experienced and respected journalist in Manchester and the North West and a great addition to the team.

“He also has strong contacts in the business community and is a tenacious and talented journalist. As a growing business we are always looking for talented people and Mike fits the bill.

“Since the closure of Crains Manchester Business a month ago we’ve seen a big leap in our registered user numbers – around 3,000, taking us to more than 20,000 in the North West.”

Mike was promoted from senior business reporter to deputy editor at Crain’s Manchester Business in 2008 and was previously the editor of business magazine EN.

Crain’s Manchester Business was closed when editor-in-chief Chris Crain said limited support from key advertising sectors had made the project unsustainable. Its former publisher Arthur Porter is now trying to launch a new publication.

TheBusinessDesk.com has been operating in the North West since September 2008, providing online business news and daily business news alerts.
