Kids will be 'leaning on the lamppost'

Most of us can recall with a sweaty-palmed sense of fear being made to sing or play an instrument in front of our peers and parents at primary school.

Now a school in the West Midlands has decided to add a touch of George Formby to lessons by chucking out the traditional recorder in favour of the ukulele.

The head teacher is quoted as saying the instrument has “more street cred”.

Is this a one-off or are we seeing a sea change in primary schools as they try to make music more fun and accessible to youngsters?
