New non-executive chairman appointed at ABC

The Audit Bureau of Circulations has announced that Sally Cartwright OBE is its new non-executive chairman.

Following formal ratification by the ABC Council, she will join the organisation in February, replacing John Mayhead who has held the position since 2000.

Sally joins from Hello! magazine where she has been director-at-large since 2007 and publishing director for 17 years prior to that.


City University in London is hosting a one-day networking event for journalists, trainees and academics on 14 January.

Called ‘news:rewired’, it will offer advice on using new technologies and skills for online journalism as well as looking at case studies from the industry.

The Derby Telegraph has launched a new photosales website which has been under development for six months.

It follows a similar project for Northcliffe sister titles based in Bristol with further websites covering Nottinghamshire and Gloucestershire due to go live in the coming weeks.

The portal uses the same ‘thisis’ branding as the companion websites for Northcliffe’s newspapers and provides a one-stop shop for customers looking to buy photos.

An online petition has been posted calling on MPs and MEPs to support journalism and the media in the South West.

Available on the iPetition website, it asks for politicians to support union action to protect jobs, back journalists exploring alternative methods of funding and lobby media owners to stop cuts.


Editors with Kent-based newspaper publisher the KM Group have selected their charities to support throughout 2010.

Local organisations were invited in September to apply for the title ‘Charity of the Year’ in the nine areas of the county which the company covers.

Among those to benefit are a hospice, an MS therapy centre, Macmillan cancer support group and horse riding school for the disabled.
