New editor takes reins at North West weekly

A North West weekly is under the charge of a new editor today.

Mike Brennan, left, has taken the reins at the Runcorn and Widnes Weekly News, stepping up from his role as head of content for Trinity Mirror Cheshire, for which he has already worked on the Weekly News.

He replaces Andrew Bowan who was last week named as the new editor of the Crewe Chronicle, following the retirement of Dave Fox after nine years in the role.

Mike, 57, told HTFP: “The Weekly News is already a very good product with good, young staff there and I just want to build on it.

“I am going in with no preconceived ideas and am keen to get to know the town better.

“I’ve already had discussions with staff about changes and perhaps take up campaigns in the area.

“This has all happened quite quickly, in the past two weeks, so I’m just taking stock and not going to make any quick decisions.”

Mike, originally from Manchester, started his career in local newspapers aged 17 and has worked for the Warrington Guardian, was assistant editor of the Stockport Express and group editor of series of free titles in the Cheshire area.
