Johnston Press announces new board appointment

Local and regional newspaper publisher Johnston Press has announced the appointment of Mark Pain as a non-executive director and chairman of its audit committee from 1 May.

Mr Pain, 47, has spent over ten years as an executive board director as well as gaining significant independent non-executive experience.

Since 2007, Mr Pain has been a non-executive director and audit committee member of Punch Taverns plc, one of the UK’s leading pub groups.

From 2006 he has been group finance director of housebuilder Barratt Developments and was formerly group finance director of Abbey National Group between 1998 and 2001.

Johnston Press chairman Ian Russell said: “I am delighted to welcome Mark to the Board. With his significant corporate experience we are confident that Mark will add value to Johnston Press and believe this appointment further strengthens the Board structure.”

The rumours are right…JP IS punch drunk.
The only thing that will strengthen board structure at JP is if they appoint someone who actually knows what they’re doing!

Interesting appointment. Presumably this now means JP will be able to organise the proverbial in a brewery!

What’s the difference between a non-executive director and a supermarket trolley?
A supermarket trolley has a mind of its own.
And you can get more food into an executive director.
