Argus signs up students as community bloggers

Students on the Brighton Journalist Works training course have been signed up as community correspondents and bloggers.

Every pupil currently studying at the centre is writing about the area they live in for the website of Brighton daily The Argus.

A trio of female students have also started blogging about fashion while others are recording video interviews with members of the public about local issues.

Brighton Journalist Works is based in the offices of The Argus.

Argus’ website editor Jo Wadsworth said: “The website offers a real opportunity for young journalists to engage with the local community and to build up relationships with the readers.

“Unlike before, when the paper used to talk at you, now the audience has more control.

“The community correspondent scheme has already been up and running for more than a year now, and the students are joining residents, community groups and even journalism professors in helping to report Brighton on a hyper-local level.

“The project gives more ownership, and therefore opportunity, to the students than a traditional work experience placement would.”

Yup, sounds like a great way of getting all that content for free…
