Subtitled cinemas

Although subtitles are the norm on TV, DVD and video, for many, silent movies are still the norm at the cinema… without the old captions that helped to explain the plot.

Deaf people are generally excluded from the popular social activity of cinemagoing.

An estimated 5m people in the UK use subtitles to enjoy films.

Almost all popular films ARE released in a subtitled version, but they are usually ‘digitally subtitled only’ which means that they are incompatible with the vast majority of UK cinemas.

It is expected that around 100 cinemas were equipped with subtitle equipment last year.

Was one of them be yours? Or did it have a subtitling option already?
