Trinity Mirror has appointed a new head of multimedia for its regionals division.

David Higgerson will leave his post as assistant editor (digital) at the Liverpool Post and Echo to take up the new role in June.

He will work closely with regional editors and newsroom staff to further the company’s multimedia activities.

Over the last year Trinity Mirror has been relaunching the websites of its regional newspapers such as the two Liverpool titles and David’s former paper The Journal, in Newcastle.

David will report to Neil Benson, editorial director of Trinity Mirror Regionals.

Neil said: “David has led several highly impressive multimedia innovations, including the Post’s successful crowdsourcing project.

“I am delighted David has taken on this key role as he has the skill and energy to continue to further drive our multimedia ambitions.”

David, (28), started his career at the Preston Citizen and had two spells at the Lancashire Telegraph.

The previous head of multimedia was Michael Hill who left the role in March to become editor of the South Wales Echo.
