Shortlist for East of England media awards unveiled

The shortlist can now be revealed for the EDF Energy East of England Media Awards 2008.

This year’s awards received nominations from across the media spectrum, from small free weekly papers to big regional dailies along with radio, TV and online journalists.

Norwich’s Evening News topped the list for the number of nominations among the region’s daily titles with seven, followed by the Cambridge News and Peterbrough Evening Telegraph with five apiece.

Among weekly papers, the Herts & Essex Observer led the way with five nominations, followed by four for the Cambridgeshire Times.

In the broadcast categories, BBC Look East received five nominations while BBC Radio Norfolk received four.

Judges spent a busy day assessing more than 200 entries from Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordsire.

Claire Byrd, head of regional media relations at EDF Energy and one of the six judges said: “The judges were really pleased with the number and quality of entries for these awards.

“Some categories were a real pleasure to judge. There was a superb standard of work submitted, making some of the shortlists very hard to select.”

EDF Energy’s sponsorship means there are £100 cash prizes for individual winners and trophies for all category champions.

The lunchtime awards ceremony will be held at Dunston in Norwich on Thursday 22 January.
