Press prize double for Glasgow student

University of Glasgow student Chris Watt took home a brace of prizes at the 12th Herald Student Press Awards.

He was crowned student journalist of the year and will enjoy a four-week paid placement alongside reporters at the Newsquest daily.

He also took home £250 as winner of the best news writer category.

The scheme, run by the Glasgow daily title, was launched in 1996 and offers eight different prizes.

It is open to anyone studying at a Scottish higher or further education establishment.

This year the awards also welcomed a new category for best new media for work which appears online.
