Newspaper company chief receives OBE

The chief executive of the CN Group Robin Burgess has received an OBE.

He is one of several members of the regional press industry to be recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Robin will pick up his medal later this year for his service to the newspaper industry and the wider community in Cumbria.

The CN Group Ltd publishes the Carlisle-based daily News and Star as well as weekly titles in Cumbria, south-west Scotland and Northumberland.

Other recipients of honours include:

  • Maurice O’Neill, editor of the Ballymena Guardian, received an OBE for services to journalism in Northern Ireland.
  • Carolyn McCall picked up an OBE for service to women in business. Ms McCall is chief executive of the Guardian Media Group whose titles include the Manchester Evening News, Reading Evening Post and various weekly newspapers.
  • James Blair Raeburn was awarded the OBE for service to the Scottish newspaper industry. He is director of the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society
  • Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue USA, was handed the OBE for services to Brisith journalism and British fashion in America
  • Arts and music journalist David Gillard was given an MBE for his service to journalism and charity in Dorset
